Waulking Mill

Waulking is to full a piece of newly woven woollen material softening and bringing together the fibres, setting the dyes and creating a hard wearing fabric.
Over centuries this would have been done by women around a hard wooden table, and you can see this demonstrated at events, for instance when Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh visit Auchindrain .. or any of their other many outings. (https://www.facebook.com/sgiobaluaidh)

But Waulking mills were also built to mechanise this process. There are not many of these in the NRS
