War Memorial

With the recent closure of Achnaba kirk, St Modans becomes the last remaining church in our parish.
A century ago we had more than 5 places of worship, and earlier still we covered a bigger geographical area.
Each of these locations memorialised those of their congregation who were fallen in war in their own way.
Surprisingly Ardchattan is one of the very few parishes in Scotland that does not have a community war memorial.

The Kirk session, Ardchattan Community council and Ardchattan Parish Archive are coming together to look at planning a fundraising project to build one on the Community Council View point land at Benderloch.

There will have to be lots of community involvement - designing the memorial, raising the money, and ensuring we have included each individual we should.

There are now 3 memorial plaques in St Modans but the kirk is locked, so not providing a publicly accessible location to reflect and remember.

The suggested site will be the viewpoint at the south end of Benderloch village, as it already belongs to Ardchattan Community Council.
It will be the ACC who will administrate the funds; a new treasurer is being installed, and when this has been completed then the project will be kicked off with community meetings.
Anyone with masonry / glass / installation / funding management / research skills are very welcome to get in touch .. please email - ku.gro.nattahcdra|lairomem#ku.gro.nattahcdra|lairomem

We are creating the skeleton of this wiki for the community, near and far, to work together to develop an encyclopedia of the natural, family and social history of Ardchattan.
