Lorn Agricultural Society has held most of it's North Lorn activities in our parish since it's inception in the 1840s.
The British Newspaper archive has nearly 1000 articles referencing the society including detailed descriptions on where, when, and the names of the winners.
These records will be valuable additional information for each of our farms and crofts.
In the early days there were 3 grades of classes reflecting the level of rent paid by the tenant.
this is the description from the 1848 show, held at Bonawe
Class First : Any proprietors and tenants being members of the society
Class Second : All tenants members of the Society, not being also landed proprietors or factors
Class Third : Open to tenants paying less than £100 rent
Class Fourth : Open to tenants paying less than £50 of yearly rent.
We are creating the skeleton of this wiki for the community, near and far, to work together to develop an encyclopedia of the natural, family and social history of Ardchattan.
