The parish was not short of its criminal activity and the Inveraray Jail Convict records provide interesting reading.
Some crimes were deserving of punishment, but others clearly indicate a life of hardship and need.

John Cameron was the Postmaster of Bonawe in the 1840's, but found himself convicted of Theft and fraud in 1846 which resulted in his being transported to Australia, reportedly to Van Dieman's Land. Are you related to him?
